When you were a kid and you fell from the monkey bars and scratched your knees, you taught yourself how to get back on the playground.
After your first disastrous breakup, you taught yourself how to pick up the pieces of your life.
To be able to self-coach, you must be able to access and use your own inner wisdom and life experiences.
There are a number of ways that you may use self-coaching to build the habits and behaviours that will help you lead a happier, more fulfilled life.
What is Self Coaching
It’s not difficult to understand the concept of self-coaching. Self-coaching is probably something you’ve done in the past without even realizing it.
Your inner knowledge can help you grow your personal development through self-coaching.
You may seek the advice of a psychologist or a mentor, but you could also rely on your own judgment and intuition. Ultimately, no one understands you better than you do.
Don’t assume that because you coach yourself, you’re weak or insecure because you’re a coach. All people are incomplete, regardless of what stage of life they are in. A work-in-progress mentality is perfectly acceptable. You’re only at the beginning of a lengthy road to bettering yourself. To the contrary, it is a sign of self-confidence if you are able to recognize your objectives and talents, rather than the other way around.
How to Practice Self Coaching
So, how does one go about self-coaching?
Action plans, strengths and weaknesses lists, reading self-help books, or taking a night class are all examples of self-improvement activities. These are the kinds of things you’d do with a professional coach. In other words, when you practice the exercises on your own, you’re engaging in some form of self-coaching.
Take, for example, the case of someone who wants to learn how to sew. There are so many places to begin. Researching online or at the library is your preferred method of gathering information. Ask a friend who is knowledgeable in quilting if they can point you in the right direction.
What’s this? A self-coaching regimen includes all of these things. Many people have done similar things in their lives, although it may not have been related to quilting!
Self-coaching may be found in nearly every aspect of your life if you learn how to use it.
Ways to Self Coach
Make a list of things you enjoy. For self-coaching, the first step is to find out exactly what you want to improve. However, not everyone is capable of doing so. For example, we’re familiar with the “wheel of life,” “why-finding activity,” and “Johari Window” activities. Later in this piece, we’ll take a deeper look at each one of them.
Set yourself up for success. Make a list of the steps you need to do to bring your idea to fruition.
A personal development plan should be drawn out. The foundation of a successful self-coaching program is a well-thought-out strategy. Make your own strategy by following these simple instructions.
Do some research. Self-coaching is all about learning. With a strategy and a schedule, you’ll be prepared to study in a meaningful manner. You’ll be doing it for a deeper and more intellectual purpose, which will help you grow as a person.
Take responsibility for your actions. Accountability methods are an essential part of a successful coaching approach. You may achieve this by defining goals, keeping tabs on your progress, and acknowledging your accomplishments along the way. Remember to take lessons from your failures as well!
The Wheel of Life Self Coaching Exercise
An activity that many business and life coaches employ with their clients is a coaching approach that is both easy and effective.
It’s called the “wheel of life,” and it’s a terrific self-improvement practice you can undertake at home.
Consider how much time you now devote to various activities and whether or not you’re happy with them.
Everything that matters to you should be included in the plan. Everything from finances to health to hobbies is covered. You’ll probably be able to come up with a few more.
In the “wheel” component, divide your activities into a circle, like a pie chart, and label them accordingly. All of your life’s experiences are represented by a slice of the pie.
Assess your level of contentment in each of the following areas. You can rate them on a scale of 1-10 or in any other manner you see fit. Rate them depending on how much they excite you and how rewarding they are to you.
The areas of your life that require the most improvement will be obvious once everything has been graded.

You’ll find strategies to boost the scores until they’re balanced to acceptable levels based on how you prioritize each of them through self-growth.
Find Your Why The Root of Self Coaching
This is a terrific workout that you can practice on your own and at home.
As a coach, it’s imperative that you help clients discover their “why,” because many motivational theories suggest that doing so will help them remain on track and achieve their goals. Find your motivation by reading our blog.
Your why is the source of your greatest desire. So to say, it’s your inner compulsion. You should always question yourself, “why do I want to achieve this goal?” before setting any goals. In most cases, the answer is tied to a strong feeling.
When you’re done, ask yourself the same question again. And yet another time. And once more!
It may sound dull, but it can be a lot of fun and teach you a lot. At some point, you’ll discover what drives you most deeply.
As an example, here’s one:
In order to learn Flamenco, ask yourself why you want to.
Continuing with the question of “why,” if the response is “to learn how to dance,”
You may come to realize that the reason you want to take dancing classes is to spend more time with your spouse. There is more to do! What makes you want to spend more time with them?
You may come to realize that your urge to dance stems from a fear of growing apart from your spouse and losing that emotional connection.
There are a lot of great insights to be gained from asking yourself “why?” as the title of this section suggests. Now that you have a better understanding of the feelings that motivate you, you can prepare appropriately!
Most of your personal development and self-coaching will be driven by your motivation.
How to Keep Going
Self-coaching is a great way to improve your own performance. It may be an excellent addition to other forms of professional development, such as working with a mentor or coach or achieving the objectives outlined in your career plan.
To keep your progress moving forward even after you’ve completed the exercises, there are a number of additional things you may do. Having a positive outlook on life may have a significant impact on your capacity to progress as an individual.
