Prague Castle

The Castle dominates the skyline all around the city, sitting on top of a hill it affords incredible views over the city. Prague Castle is where the Czech kings, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices and it is still used as the workplace and official residence of the President. Opening Hours and Costs From April 1 till October 31 … [Read more...]

Terezin Holocaust Concentration Camp

I wanted to visit Terezin the holocaust concentration camp, about 60km north of Prague Czech Republic. I don't know why I wanted to go. I have lived most of my life in Britain and all the Wars in Europe have been less important to our local culture. I first noticed the contrast while living in Vienna. Jokes were not made on this subject, unlike home were it was fairly common. So I drove out of … [Read more...]

Liberec Some Things to See and Do

You might end up in Liberec by accident, or maybe you are in the area and curious, like we were driving back from a weekend in the mountains that run along the border between the Czech Republic and Poland. But I wouldn't go out of my way to head there for the day or for sightseeing – it is not a pretty city, though it has a comfortable feel and it’s nice to sit in the main square and have a coffee … [Read more...]

Summer in the Czech Republic

During the first month I was building fires … [Read more...]

Walking Holiday in South Bohemia, Czech Republic

We are staying in this pension in Bohemia, it is a converted farm house, A and I would both love one, we have looked before we came here – but we are unsure about country living – that would be such a shock to us.  The pension is great, large rooms, friendly and for my Irish … [Read more...]

Hotel Adam in Špindlerův Mlýn

Like most Czech Hotels the service in Hotel Adam is fairly disappointing.  The staff are not friendly and do not know how to smile with the exception of the female manager - who was the only one who managed to smile and be chatty. There is good and bad to be said about this hotel - it has a great swimming pool with sun beds that can be taken out onto a sun terrace, as with most places in the … [Read more...]

Where is Prague?

I was asked the other day "Where is Prague?" I must admit I was surprised by the question - I am back and forward to Prague quite often as that is where Anna is from and where we will end up living sometime in the next few years. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, which in in Central Europe - you know right beside Germany, heard of that? I don't know a lot of things and I expect … [Read more...]
